Frequently Asked Questions

Your Guide To Our Hospital

1. Can I choose where I go for rehabilitation after my hospital stay?

Yes. You have the right to choose your rehabilitation provider, regardless of where you had surgery or received acute care. If you’d like to recover at Delmar Private, simply inform your treating team or discharge planner.

2. Do I need a referral to come to Delmar Private?

Yes. A referral from your treating doctor or hospital discharge planner is required. You can ask for this to be sent directly to Delmar Private.

3. Will my private health fund cover my stay at Delmar Private?

In most cases, yes. Delmar Private partners with all major health funds. If you’re unsure about your level of cover, we’re happy to check for you. Sometimes patients are given incomplete or incorrect advice, so it’s best to confirm directly with us.

4. I was told I could only go to a specific rehab facility—is that true?

No. While some hospitals may have preferred providers, you are not restricted to just one option. You have the right to request a referral to Delmar Private if that’s your preference.

5. What types of rehabilitation does Delmar Private offer?

We offer a comprehensive range of inpatient rehabilitation services, including:

  • Orthopaedic rehabilitation (after joint replacement, fractures, or spinal surgery)
  • Neurological rehabilitation (for stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurological conditions)
  • Cardiac rehabilitation (following heart surgery or cardiac events)
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation (for chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD)
  • Reconditioning (after illness, surgery, or extended hospital stays)
  • Medical rehabilitation (for complex or chronic medical conditions)
  • Falls prevention and balance training

6. Can I get a private room?

Yes—all of our inpatient rooms are private. This provides greater comfort, dignity, and a restful environment for recovery. It’s one of the key differences that sets Delmar Private apart.

7. How can I make sure I’m referred to Delmar Private?

Let your treating team or discharge planner know you’d like your rehabilitation at Delmar Private. You or your family can also contact us directly, and we’ll assist with coordinating the referral.

8. Can my family or carer assist with the referral process?

Absolutely. Families and carers are important advocates. We’re happy to speak with them directly to help answer questions and support the referral process.

9. Who can I speak to for help?
